You know those sayings, "to rush is never to complete" and "to error is human"? How many have you got?
I have a character who says them *all the time* and I just want a nice collection for him :-)
Thanks.

Does it have to be an analogy like that? Could he also say something like, "make hay while the sun is high," or "never look a gift horse in the mouth," or "don't bite the hand that feeds you"? Can it be any old trite expression?

A persian proverb I am fond of:
If one man calls you a horse, ignore him; if two men call you a horse, consider it; if three men call you a horse, buy a saddle.

One that one of my characters is fond of is (adjusted so it fits within my world) "You'll catch no antelope with a broken spear".
"Too many Chiefs, not enough Indians."
"Distant water won't help to put out a fire close at hand. " (Chinese)
"The nail that sticks up, gets hammered down."

A Chinese one:
Be like the rolling rock; always moving on to stop the moss growing on you

When in Rome, do as Romans do.

Hey, I don't know if you're still working on this project, but a lot of sayings like that can be found in the Christian Bible. Proverbs is full of them, and you may be able to find some in Wisdom as well. I don't know if you have access to a Bible, but I'm sure you can find that information online. I'm not preaching or anything like that, mind. It's the last thing I would ever do, especially in this setting. I just think it might be a good place for you to find little cliche'd nuggets like what you've mentioned before.

Yeah. Listen to darky. I'm not too keen on religion, and christianity is not at the top of the list, but to say the whole damn thing is without merit, as some critics do, is plain old pig-headed stupidry. the bible is actually a pretty good read after the genealogies.

My favourite sort-of saying type thing is "I don't like that person, I must get to know them better." I don't think it's actually a saying, but my father and my Grandfather say it, and I love it.
