So, a while ago I got iStat, a wonderful little program that sits up on your menu bar and tells you the time, how much RAM and processor power you're using, how hot your computer is, how much data you're sending/receiving, and a few other things. Since then, I've gotten rather spoiled. Knowing whether a site is loading slowly due to a busy processor or a slow transfer tells you quite a lot, and aside from that it's nice to have all that information available at a glance.
I have a laptop I use for work. It's Windows, by necessity, since it's more convenient for me to work on the same platform as everyone else and since one of the functions of my job requires a program that only works on Windows. But I haven't explored Windows utilities as much as I have Mac ones, so I don't know what sites to browse for reviews/links or what programs could help me. I know there will be something, because, simply because of its ubiquity, Windows has everything Mac has except for a good command-line interface (and a good GUI, for that matter; Dashboard rocks my socks).
But you can help me, especially those of you who use computers in the manner I do (that is, more than a casual user, but less than a Unix supergeek) and have had to conform to the Bill Gates model of IT infrastructure for longer. Do you have anything that sits in the Taskbar or Start menu or even on the top of everything and tells you stuff? On the desktop would be okay too; I have the "View the Desktop" link in the quickbar to attempt to appease the loss of F11. Unfortunately, the Taskbar is kind of cramped, because the designers at Microsoft never figured out what Macintosh finally came to with the introduction of the Dock, so I think a semitransparent box sitting at the lower left-hand corner might be best. Know of anything like that?
