View Full Version : Something inconvenient to wear when kidnapped by aliens

I'm trying to work out what my female character should wear when kidnapped by aliens. Not pyjamas, that's too Hitchhiker's guide, or i'd use that. She won't be in it the whole book. I was thinking work uniform? She's 20.

Depends on where she works. If she moonlights as a call girl, it's certainly gonna be awkward. Maybe she wears a giant animal suit or something to advertise a restaurant or used car dealership. There's a couple of mascots for this one company in my town that dress as giant rugs and wave at cars going by all day. It's actually two rugs pasted together with a face on them. The smae rug as I have in my living room >_<

Well, she's at home when she's kidnapped, so I don't think she'd be dressed in her mascot outfit already...
I don't want it to be HUGELY inconvenient...

What about normal clothes, with some too high and very expensive stilettos that your MC is trying on again in a bout of second or third thoughts about their recent purchase. When she gets a moment, she can get rid of them and be more mobile, but only after she reconciles herself to abandoning any chance of a refund. (this might provoke some alien misunderstanding about human priorities)

OMG. She could be a HOOTERS Girl!

The only practical thing about that outfit would be the shoes. (as opposed to stilettos)

She could be trying on a costume that she's been working on sewing, maybe to check the length that the hems need to be, when she's kidnapped. It could be something fairly wearable like a medieval style dress, or something a little more difficult to survive wearing for long periods of time, depending on how much you wish to inconvenience this character.

There's lots of fun work uniforms that could be inconvenient. Like a firefighter's protective gear! Hehe.

She could be returning from martial arts practice and still be in her uniform.

Ditto for any sort of team sports match. Soccer/football (cleats, umbros), swimming, tennis (skimpy little white tennis dress), etc.

As with jen's suggestion above, she could just be going to / returning from a costume party, and be wearing something silly, like a nun's habit or a goth vampire getup or something like that.

Maybe she was working on her car/house/whatever and was still in her greasy coveralls.

Perhaps she was cycling and was still in her lycra/spandex tights and shirt with the little pockets on the back

:edit: your description of your chorus uniforms comes to mind, too! :D On your way home from chorus practice, and... zap! Hehehe.

A towel, obviously. With a turban.

hah... if i were stranded in my choir outfit... that'd be horrible...
No, no Hooters. She's Australian. (and I know her well enough to know that a) she would never get into something like that job, b) she wouldn't WANT to get into something like that, she'd find it disgusting)
I also can't decide if the kidnapping should be at night, or early morning...

I think the time would depend on what she's wearing. If it's work clothes it could be either. If it's pary clothes, more likely evening or late in the night.

Someone already suggested what I thought would be a good idea, getting kidnapped in just a towel. And that would work for morning or night.

Either evening or morning you could go with a facial mask, ( you know the green knid) a towel (as suggested above), curlers, etc.. (you know anything a normal woman would use but not be cuaght dead in.)

Or, I realllllly liked the Stilletos thing, very impractical, always hard to part with because they are just soooooo cute/sexy.

an outfit that she HATES and so she has to complain about wearing it for a while until she gets some okay clothes

Nah, my character would never use curlers, facial masks, and I can't see her wearing stilletoes either. Unless she had to, for some bizarre reason.

If the character is the type that doesn't like wearing formal clothing, perhaps she was at a funeral, and so is wearing very fancy, very sober, very dark clothing. Not too impractical, but annoying for the character if it's not what tshe likes wearing.

she doesn't mind wearing formal clothing, at formal occasions, she more hates things like stilletoes, or high heels unless she absolutely 'has' to, and she doesn't like makuep or mucking around with her hair much.

Well, along the hooters line, what if she was kidnapped wearing a waitress uniform. You know, like short skirt, ugly tunic, whatever, and it was cold?

mmm, kidnapped in her 'feeling bloated and pre-menstrual' scruffy teeshirt, tracksuit bottoms and fluffy bunny feet slippers?

Alien costume? So aliens think she's killed and skinned one of them? :o

a disco outfit. if aliens take over the world, the disco era CANNOT begin again!!! (Thats why us twelve year-olds are better suited to take over the world.)

*rolls eyes* I'm too lazy to take over the world in less then three monthes...

What if she was abducted while she was wearing a big winter coat and stuff...

Or maybe that's too Canadian. Yeah, seeing as she lives in Australia...
