I have found today that some of the photos from Flickr that I try to save for the Your Book thread just save white.
Anybody know why?
Only very few of the ones I save work, and I have found that if it will work the file name is a mass of numbers, where if it won't work, it has spaceball as the file name.

The spaceball.gif is a transparent "picture" over the top of an image. It is a protection device, so that people can't save images from the site, possibly to steal them. The best way to get a copy of the images would be to screencap. The most legal way would be to get in touch with the owner of the image/s and ask for a copy. :)
ETA: The best thing to do for a meme like that, is to just reload the random page until you find one that isn't "spaceballed", cos then you more or less have the owner's permission to save it if you want.

So that's why it's happening. Thank you Wilwarin. I'll keep refreshing.
What does ETA mean?

No they don't :)
I prefer just to save it though. Saves me stuffing around trying to crop it.

I think that's what Flickr and Photobucket (etc) users count on though. That you'd prefer the easy way, and "spaceball"-ing is the easiest way to prevent that.
EDIT: Since you're saving the pics for the meme, which requires you to use paint/photoshop anyway, it's not that much more "work" anyways.

Lol true, Wilwarin, but then I try to get the sides just right, and have to do that a few times to get it right :)
