Welcome, potential NiHers! This thread is designed for new members, and a new one will be created every month. It will explain and introduce the major official current events happening on NiH. Not what's going on in the personal lives of the members, you'll have to join up for that but public forum activities and important posts. A little 'What's On' thread. Older members, if I've missed out anything please PM me with the link/details.
1. The NiH shop (Vhttp://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/goto.php?section=shop).
This was created a few months ago and is still in development. You'll find it at the link above, or by clicking 'shop' in the menu. It has some items on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk that we as members recommend, both as help for creativity, and also just things we like. If you'd like your recommendations added to the shop, the thread to do so has been linked from the shop. Also, by clicking on a recommendation (any of them) just before you buy something from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk, you're helping me out, wage wise, with little extra effort and no extra money on your part.
It also has some links to things for sale from NiH members and their friends. I invite you to check it out. If you have an item for sale online, you're encouraged to PM me with the link to it, and I'll put it up!

The NiH Fitness Challenge 2008 (http://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6253)
Once you're able to see the Fitness Forum, you'll see that there is a fitness competition. Signups are closed, but this is one example of competitions that occur on the forum.
3. Creative Forums Posting Competition (http://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6367)
The winner has been announced, but further competitions will happen. This one was to encourage people to post more in the forums for creativity. The winner was the person who posted most, but those who attempted to participate were put in a draw to win a postcard from me, the admin. Those postcards and the prize will soon be sent!

I was attempting to get Google ads onto NiH, but failed. We are currently discussing the potentiality of having yahoo ads instead.

We are pondering the restarting of the Book Club.
6. The Thirty Days forum, for NaNoWriMo, has been closed down, and all posts have been integrated back into the Writing Forum (http://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12). Of course until next November you can still ask us for help!
7. The NiH Webcomic (http://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2357)
is still going, but because no one has submitted more comics, it is on hiatus. So if you have any comics, PLEASE submit them. This is your chance to practice your art and humour! New members are welcome to participate, and they don't have to have a certain theme.

Do you have a character that you can't draw? Are you an artist and at a loss for what to draw? Come and describe your character, or borrow one to draw!

10. What Do You Care About (http://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6501)
Come and make a short film, even just with windows movie maker, about something that matters to you. In your personal life, or world issues. Put it on youtube or photobucket or whereever, then show us the movie!
11. Knitting For Charity Challenge (http://www.notebookinhand.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6436)
If you're a knitter, come and knit some 6x6 inch squares, and send it to a central location to be sewn into blankets to be donated to World Vision!
