Ok this is a very weird question and will probably be MUNGO hard to answer but I'm desperate...

This is the situation, a boy saw a man go into a house that isn't his own. He realizes that something isn't right so he silently follows. A serial murderer has been terrorizing his small town so the atmosphere is tense. An old woman looks out of her window and sees him enter the house but had not seen the other man enter.

Confused? I hope you aren't yet...

So then the boy sees the man trying to murder someone and tries to save him. The old woman has at this time called the police. The man escapes, the person he tried to murder dies as the boy tries to save him. The police find the boy crouched over the recently dead man. They suspect him, he goes through many trials and they are about to send him to jail when he realizes that he had seen something that was evidence of his innocence as he was walking into the house...

So, what could the peice of evidence be? It has to be something that you wouldn't normally think of and it can't be like hair or forensic evidence. Something that maybe belonged to the criminal that he accidentally dropped or left behind...???

That's a tough one... If he had seen the man's footprints (muddy maybe) that would at least prove that he wasn't the only one in the house, though he could still be an accessory to murder that way.

Hmm, maybe the guy dropped something that only an older guy would have? (Or, at least, something I hope a boy wouldn't... But you never know...!)

How about forensic evidence that only turns up after a while - An errant hair or fingerprint?

Perhaps the murderer drops his wallet at one point and a business card or bank card falls out - the boy could've spotted it, but it didn;t register as odd until he thought back - it could be wedged somewhere low, so only the boy would see it??

The man could be a diabetic, and he drops his insulin at the scene or something? Something which the boy obviously wouldn't need?
