Suppose you wanted to get the honey in a bee nest without the pesky problem of being swarmed by dozens of bees. If you knocked it down by throwing something at it and kept far enough away that the bees didn't find you, would they continue to swarm around the nest or would they disperse eventually?

Light a fire under the hive and then go away and wait for the smoke to drive them all away?
