What's a dumb reason to kidnap someone?

Somewhere in my NaNo there is a kidnapping (not written yet.) I don't know who the kidnapper is, and I don't know what it's about. I just know that it's dumb. The kidnapper has a very, very dumb reason for the kidnapping. What I need is a list of ideas for what the dumb reason is. Once I get some ideas, I think the rest will fall into place.

To impress someone else

he wanted to steal her money but was afraid she'd be able to pick him out in a lineup
he wanted to make her dinner but figure she'd say no if he asked
he just had to show his new home theater to *somebody*

He's afraid to go into the woods on his own
He thought that if he kidnapped her, people would finally know who he was

Needed a human test subjejct for their mad scientist experiments. No, wait, that's a good reason.
They look like the kidnapper's long lost little sibling or spouse or parent or other loved one. Kinda ties in with number one here.

Yes it does. But I want the kidnapper to be kind of not the sharpest bulb on the tree, if you get my meaning. He's not bright enough to write a novel.

Well, yes, but does Mister Kidnapper Man know that?
He could've heard that someone with that family name was good at writing and he wanted someone to write his biography.But he kidnapped the wrong person.

I don't know if it will help you at all, but a friend once wanted to 'kidnap' me because he saw me put sugar and cream in my coffee. He wanted to teach me the "ways of the black coffee", or something...
