I've got a bunch of characters being kidnapped by aliens. They'll be kidnapped in different situations, perhaps some from school, some from home, some from work, some from shopping. I don't want all my characters to be 'bare handed' while being kidnapped, ie, only with the clothes on their backs. Don't worry, none of the characters will be conveniently carrying a gun (and if they are, i'll disarm them pretty quickly)
so... I need suggestions of places that people might be when they're kidnapped by aliens. (and not through a zappy tube thing, they need to be actually physically taken to a portal/spaceship) If i have suggestions of where they are, i might have suggestions of things they might have with them.
So, out of interest, if you don't mind sharing... (and you don't have to do all of these)

In my work bag there is a laptop and half a packet of mixed nuts that I spilled in another compartment and have been too lazy to take out :P They would make a decent snack if I was ever abducted by aliens though, maybe I should keep em in there...

Workbag/Schoolbag(for me the same thing):Camera, 5 Lenses, Film, Flash, Cable release, Macro rings, Discman, Comb, pens, notepads, flashdrive, and light meter.
Wallet: Credit card... Um that's it, I hate being broke.
Pockets:Keys, wallet, bus tickets, library cards, mobile phone, change (if their is any), and two bus timetables.
Is that of any help?

What is currently in your schoolbag? A load of junk - just books, random scraps of paper, and rather strangly, lots of pencil sharpenings - which is strange 'cos I don't really use a pencil sharpener that much...
Your workbag? Don't have one.
Your handbag? God knows, I have about fifty. Probably some gum, a pen, small notebook.
your purse? (ie wallet type thing) Lots of reciepts. I'm in the habit of collecting them :) Also, bus, train and german tram tickets. Possibly some money, but not likely.
in your pockets? Nothing.

Depends what it is of course. Even hairties could be of use.

Ok, I have another - a lollipop in a pocket. Took that from a friend who I was talking to on msn. Though, I reckon it could depend on the character (as you probably know, and may even have mentioned), because I'd never leave a lollipop just lying around =D

Don't worry, Tundra, I carry loads with me at all times. And, as anyone with children can attest, compared to many people I barely carry anything at all.
In my backpack, which is the bag I lug to and from work every day: a notebook, several pens and pencils, a book to read, my lunch, my purse, my work badges, a calculator, a small notepad, ponytail holders, contact solution & case, a small bottle of hand lotion, an emery board, some access codes for work, and these weird compliment cards I got from some people during a class a year ago.
In my purse, which I lug just about everywhere (and you listed as a handbag): keys to car/apartment/file cabinet/firebox/mailbox, notepad, business cards (mine, my fiance's, and a couple from wedding vendors to remind me of appointments), cell phone, comb, chapstick, medicine (pain killers, lactaid, pepto bismol tablets, allegra, and immodium), lotion, wallet, asthma inhaler, pens, coinpurse, hand sanitizer, transparent heart favor, freaky beaded Chinese thing I found in a parking lot once, highlighter, ponytail holders, emery board, breath strips, PDA, and eyedrops. (Believe it or not, I have a relatively small purse.)
In my wallet, which is inside my purse: 4 credit cards (2 regular, 1 work, 1 debit), driver's license, change of address card (because it costs $10 to get a new license), probably expired prepaid phone card, library card, Metro SmarTrip, club cards from Safeway and Giant grocery stores, insurance cards (health and auto), Honda roadside assistance card, "hey I had major heart surgery in 1985 and this is the kind of precautions you need to take if I'm in an accident" card, 2 Metro farecards I keep meaning to cash in, a half-used JC Penney giftcard, and cash.
There's nothing in my pockets except a stick of Chapstick. I used to carry my keys and wallet in there too but then I got a job that more often than not involved wearing a pocketless skirt, so I started carrying a purse everywhere.

I tend to keep everything in my pockets, though on an average day I could have all sorts of things in there. Especially if I have cargo pants. A book, a granola bar, a screwdriver, some paperclips, rubber bands, pens, pencils, keys, a usb drive, a mini flashlight, a pocket knife, numerous movie ticket stubs, a lucky widget, an mp3 player & headphones, shades, and probably some other stuff I don't recall.
When we were kids and we had our neighborhood superhero team they called me 'Pack' cause I always had something in my pockets. Kinda like Batman. Except I had utility pants!

What is currently in your schoolbag? My purse, pens, a random Visa receipt, my green notebook for ideas, my clipboard with a mixture of philosophy and Greek & Roman studies notes, and my philosophy anthology book.
Your workbag? Lap top, journal I have yet to write in, the Sims 2, an empty Ziploc bag, deoderant, my Italian workbook and text book and answer key and notes.
Your handbag? And now for your viewing pleasure...*dumps the contents onto her bed* three pens, two blue, one black, the black one is the only one that works. A slip of paper from the library, I've checked out four books. Another slip, I've checked out two CDs. A grocery receipt, a ten-tablet packet of adult Gravol in blister strips, a set of spare car keys, a spare house key (I lost my regular keys for both,) face powder make up thinger, crystal ice flavoured Softlips balm, a toffee wrapper, an almost-empty travel-sixe bottle of hand santizier, and a dime.
your purse? (ie wallet type thing) Oh lordie...uhm...7 debit card reciepts: for 2 deposits and a withdrawal at the bank; for buying a sandwich in the bistro on campus; for a coffee thing at the bookstore; for a hot chocolate at starbuck's and another for video rental at the local store. 6 receipts from my meal card at the dining hall. Three more grocery receipts. Hey! I just found 15 bucks wrapped up in the receipts! 70 cents in change. Hookay, for cards I have: meal card, Social Insurance Number, a Movie Gallery rental card, student card for 2003-2004, 2 starbucks coffee cards, Pleasure Craft Operator Card, another student card for 2003-2004 (I don't know WHY they gave us two,) a student card for 04/05, a day-pass metro card for the new york city subway system, a British Columbia CareCard, (I'm an organ donor!), my novice Driver's Licence, debit card, Visa, library card, and university student card and bus pass combo.

In my absolutely enormous black messenger bag, the one I take everywhere, there is currently:
One black notebook I'm using for NaNo
Several blunt pencils
Notes from my training at work (filled with pictures of buildings and places in my NaNo)
A booklet from my recruitment agency
My Jobseeker's Allowance forms
My work security pass and ID
A blue biro
A Tupperware container that usually contains lunch (two cheese and onion rolls)
Tampons
A very hairy hairbrush
Body spray (Impulse Thrill, I think)
Three tubes of black eyeliner
A handheld mirror
A broken necklace
Two or three pairs of discarded hoop earrings
My spare pair of glasses
My black-and-white stripy scarf
A very battered copy of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita
Several Blue Riband low-calorie chocolate snack bars
A squashed satsuma that I'm saving for a fruit crisis
My purse, some of the time
Assorted bag-debris: receipts, change, bus tickets, lint, old tissues...
In my purse:
More receipts
More ancient bus tickets
Some old cinema ticket stubs
My debit card (useless until Friday)
Assorted business cards
My National Insurance Numbercard
A donor card in case I am knocked down in a freak traffic accident or something
My birth certificate
My Citizencard proof-of-age ID card (with absolutely awful picture of me with short red hair)
A stamp card from Claire's Accessories that entitles me to a free pair of earrings when I buy nine pairs
A letter from my psychiatrist's office that I use as proof-of-addess
A bank statement
A bit of paper with my work computer login on it
A ten pound note and assorted change
And attached to the outside is my house key and a sharp bottle-opener keyring in the shape of a dolphin that could probably be used as a lethal weapon. As I keep accidentally finding out when trying to get to my house key.

It may not sound like much, but you carry my workbag for a day. It's weight that matters!
Also, forgot a couple of things, during summer I always have a bottle of water with me. And depending on the situation I might have a multi-tool on my belt (it usually resides in my cars glove box).
I tend to keep everything in my pockets, though on an average day I could have all sorts of things in there. Especially if I have cargo pants. A book,...
Ah, yeah, I used to be like this, till my pants started falling down without a belt! Now I find a camera bag is handy for those things that just weight too much. Although when bush walking army webbing is usually better.

a pencil, a pen, some tissues, lip balm, a notebook, an umbrella, a douglas adams book, a camera,a mobile phone and a used ticket to Lano and Woodley. a purse, with bus tickets, money, id card, some phone numbers, photos, some coins, some used train tickets/tram tickets, library card, library photocopying card, a key.

My schoolbag SHOULD be cleaned out, but it's not... so in there are a couple filled up notebooks, a binder, a pencil case with lots of pencils, probably some "feminine items", a magnetic locker hanger, random loose papers, and my watch (hey, I've been looking for that...)
My purse is holding my keys, my cell phone, a mostly-empty pack of Orbit Bubblemint gum, my wallet (note the conspicuous lack of money), and a gift certificate to a jewelry store.
My wallet contains my debit card, my learner's permit, two years' worth of student IDs, my library card, a metrocard, two Starbucks cards, an FYE gift card, a Gap gift card, a note from my friend, a $10 bill, and lots of movie ticket stubs.
My pockets have seven cents and some empty gum wrappers.

Normally in my school bag, I have all the stuff a purse should contain in the front pocket, because I don't carry one. My wallet, house key, an inhaler, um... "feminine things", and lip balm... My wallet has three years of student ID cards, my driver's permit, um... some change, and all my gift cards that have about ten cents on them. In the main part of the bag, I normally have my school books, and binders, and then my notebook that I use to write non-school things. Right now it's got six sharpies in varying colors, two pens (one black one blue) a notebook, a reading book and a sweater.
In my pockets I always have my cell, and I sometimes have some money, or my mom's debit card. Every once in a while I have my pocket knife on me.
