View Full Version : insults and bullying

In a short story I'm writing, I have a girl named Maria who is bullied at school as she's often dirty and her uniform is old and shabby and too small for her. It's also well-known that her mother is an alcoholic. I need to have things for the bullies (mostly girls) to call her, things for them to say? I'm useless at this kind of thing. So far, all I have is that they tease her about having fleas. Plays on her name would be good, if anyone can think of any, but any general insults that sound like they come from fourteen-year-old girls would be great! Thanks in advance for any help.

There's always smell. Mario would be a good nickname but I guess it's not what you're looking for ;)

14 year old girls are biatches, they'll call you whatever they feel like, if they think it'll hurt you. Ranges from really hard stuff (can't think right now, stuff to do with her mum's alchoholism) to the petty (smelly, etc.). It's not only the names that hurt, but they're brilliant at throwing the dirtiest looks at you as well, you know, the ones that scream 'Ewww, what did the cat drag in now?'.

*sing song voices*
"Dirty fat Maria,
Came over here to see-ya,
Stole some cash
And in a flash
Was at the pizzaria.
She ate six pies,
Out popped her eyes,
To roll across the floor,
Down the stairs and out the door,
Doubling in size.
Maria's face is swelling,
Tears in her eyes are welling,
But they're not tears,
I fear, my dears,
Like vodka they are smelling.
Dirty fat Maria,
Came over here to see-yah,
She's gone, farewell,
But not the smell
Of explosive diarrhea!"
Okay I know it was childish and my rhyming sucks, and it sounds more like 7 year olds playing clapping-games on the playground.

eeeeugh.I have too much experience with insults from fourteen-year-olds for my own good.(I can't stand like eighty percent of my class.I am 'the weird overweight one'.Yaaaay.But there's always the nice twenty percent who make up for it somewhat.)
Um.
Well,yeah.Fourteen-year-old girls are generally immature so they will be all like "smelly!"and "your mom's a drunk harharhar" and stuff, and generally any petty insult that comes to mind.
"Mary, Mary, quite contrary" comes to mind.I don't think a 14yr. old would say that though.
. . .
Brainblank,sorry.

14 year old girls are sneaky about it. They won't just openly insult you like before. They'll set you up just so they can watch you fall. It's more subtle mind games than calling someone an idiot.

Already got the setting up. Need the words. Although that was pretty much the coolest bit of rhyming ever seen on this board.
Good suggestions so far anyway. Anyone else?

Just a thought: bullies aren't known for witty word-play. They could just chant 'dirty, dirty, wino, stinky' at her, and it would probably be pretty accurate, especially if, given the age and my own experience with bullies in that grade, you throw in some swear words. *sigh* Actually, now I'm thinking about it, if they just repeated one or two (really uncreative) things again and again that would hold accurate with what I've seen.

Morbid 7-year-olds, maybe.
(And yes, I know all about Ring Around the Rosie, but it contains no explicitly morbid content, just descriptors which only people who know the back story understand. But eyes expanding and popping out of one's face is blatantly morbid.)

Yeah, that's another thing - They aren't afraid to swear either, but if they do they'll be more discreet about it, then if they were just calling her names.

lol...I'm a 14 year old girl so I can probably help you! :D The girls around here don't take the time just to make an extensive rhyme or rhyme your name with some other word (though a few are still that immature) mostly it's just like name calling beleive it or not. Or they will embarass you or whatever to make you feel inferior...Here are a few things they say: Are you like, a queer? or "bit**"yes, they are amazingly clever, are they not?
There was this one girl the other day who came into class wearing something that looked home made and some of the *preppy* girls giggled to themselves and started whispering to each other and casting glances at her, It made me so mad... Anyways they don't really confront you they do it behind the scenes and talk to their little friends and boyfriends about you and make everyone believe that you are something you aren't...
Another one that they like to use is when they say to someone with a wierd haircut "Oh, I love your hair!!!" sarcastically and then giggle hysterically to one another...lol it makes me laugh to think about how immature they are.
I am a neutral person in school right now, I get along better with "goths" (if you want to put a label on it) than I do preps...everyone seems to fit in with a group unless they don't have a group and then they get along with everybody (which is where I am at right now) And that is cool, but the problem with that is you never have a close circle of friends, becuase mostly everybody else fits into a group, you are always kind of a loner...
Anyway I didn't mean for it to go that deep but I just moved to a new school and so I have been trying to make new friends but it's really hard because I'm with no group...So I kinda know what is going on in the highschools right now...
I hope I helped! Even though I got just a little bit off subject...

moved this topic, I think it is better suited to this section.
Most insults I recieved age 14 were things like 'ooo she's such a baby! she plays with dolls!' (dollhouse miniatures... *sigh*) or snide comments about my clothes or hair.
Or girls coming up and telling me some guy likes me, when he doesn't, as a way to annoy/embarrass both of us. Or guys doing the same thing...

I remember there was a girl like that at my old school, and everyone called her 'stink scab', as in that scabby gunky stuff you get on the inside of the bin...

When I was fourteen, I got made fun of quite a bit. (Being the heavy one in school sucks.) However, the people who hurt my feelings most were the ones who didn't use any cruel words. It was all in the intonation--they'd say "Hi, Amy. You look really nice today," and I'd know they hated me. I've always hated that sort of thing, because it's hard to explain to teachers. "Well, they said I looked nice!" I could exclaim, using a similar tone of voice, and the teacher would roll her eyes.
That's a bit hard to convey in text, though. I'd suggest they do the not-so-friendly pal talk. For example, "When're you going to bring us that vodka you promised us? Your mom's got enough to share, doesn't she?" Cue laughter. Fake friendliness hurts the most.

Vindie, I think you need to look into the mind of the bullied girl too. I'm pretty sure she also sees slights where there are none. You can't just make every single attack be 1. overt and 2. external :P

This I have no problem with, though. I know what it's like to be paranoid and think that every time they laugh, for example, they're laughing about you. Every time they whisper, every time they walk past... etc, etc, etc. The largest aspect of bullying amongst females is the sneaky stuff, the things that aren't, as you said, external and overt. I just have trouble with the parts that ARE external and overt. The things I was called don't apply in Maria's situation, so I can't really adapt them.
The fake friendliness is a brilliant tip, though. Forgot about that one. Thank you, Ms. Not Indigo. *grin*

I know you're probably done with whatever your project was. However, being insulted (and by the way, not offended by it) myself, I can honestly say that the thing most people think of are your looks.
Last year, someone I know, whom I was, generally, nice to, called me ugly out of the blue. Really I fairly burst out laughing at her. Then a while later, she was sitting on one side of a window in school, and I was sitting on the other, in another classroom. She mouthed to me: You are fucking ugly.
It's hard to be insulted by someone as incredibly ignorant and, actually, stupid, as she was (she was pretty much failing our main classes, of which we had three. She also cheated on her boyfriend, and I think she was held back a grade) So I just smiled at her and waved. Not sure if this would help any.

Actually I am still working on that particular project so yes, that does help, thankyou. ^_^
