View Full Version : Asking a Favour Of You

Hi everyone! I was wondering if i could ask for a favour. I know it's Summer up north and so on, but, i'm sure you've noticed that the forums have been a bit quiet recently, and i worry that this is making it so people do not want to hang out here anymore- meaning the people who are not total nih maniacs :) I dunno. Maybe it's not too quiet for them.
The thing is, if you think it's quiet, you can do something to help- post. If everyone thinks it's quiet and then doesn't post, then they're part of the problem. I've been getting quite worried about how quiet it's been, even taking into account people being away on holidays. It's winter for me, and i'm cold and bored, and want to hang out on the forums. :P The longer that people wait for other people to talk, the worse it's going to get.
So... the favour is... can you all post at least one thread? About anything. It's all good. Share with us what you're doing, post 'downstairs' or 'upstairs'. Talk about your projects. If you don't see a thread that you'd like to talk in, post one.
I hope you don't think i'm being pushy, and I do'nt want it to go superficial with only dumb 'filler' posts, but c'mon... it's sooo quiet in here sometimes lately!
I love you all and I want a chance to TALK to you!
Also, the newer members are included in this. I'd *love* to hear from you. don't be shy, we don't bite!

Everything intarweb is slow here on my end of the chain. :(

Summer vakays and shore houses and general out door activity.

But we're having a heat wave, so maybe it'll pick up as people flee to the a/c.

eexcellent. Picking up a bit!

I must admit, I always feel slightly reluctant to start new threads, although I am not really sure why: fear of sounding silly, not wanting to tread on any toes or something along those lines most probably. Anyway, I will try to post some of my writerly and music.. musicy musings a bit more...

Fear of sounding silly? On NiH? Sounding silly has been elevated to an artform here. :P Don't be wary, dude, seriously. Although I have to say your lack of postage does make you a mysterious figure. :D

Uh, I'm trying to get this guy I know to join! He's the one who suggested I read Robin Hobb. I think he'd be a really good addition, but I don't really KNOW know him so...

Any time someone comes in and buys a book on crafting/writing/drawing/any combination of creative things, I hand them a B&N business card with NiH's address on the back.

Me: It's the best creative arts forum out there. My friend runs it. She's amazing. It's amazing. Check us out.
Customer: Ah, thanks... *weird look*

So, I figure out of every thirty customers, I should get one that's just crazy enough to be enthused back. :D

Oh, DUDE, now I am just waiting for someone to post a newbie thread saying "this crazy happy chick gave me a card in B&N so I thought I'd check it out" and that would be SO COOL.

My very, very few writer friends don't seem at all interested. T_T

Their loss, I feel.

Tundra

... you hand out business cards??? hahaha! That's sort of cool ... but also probably quite disturbing for them. :P
So, if we get overinflated with people from Tennessee, it's your fault. :P got it. :P But i guess you'd stop business carding if too many tennessee people started showing up. So that's alright.

Mcnicks, you do NOT have to be shy with us.

d00d. I passed one out to a 60+ year old woman today who seemed quite eager to check us out! :D

I was like that when I first joined. Even today I'm a bit shyish. *eyes post count* As you may have noticed.

I was actually in the middle of a NiH marathon this morning... until my internet cut out just as I was trying to post in this thread before. My internet's been being really silly recently.

Hmm. LadyAbby has given me an idea. Next time I'm in Chapters, I'm leaving scraps of paper with the adress of NiH and one of our 'slogans' in some of the how-to-write books.

It might not be good for anything but my own personal amusement, but I'm still going to do it. ^_^

In other news: Jen'n'me are working on a friend of ours, Michelle. The problem isn't that she dosn't like the sound of NiH, it's that she's insanly busy and is concerned about it eating her life. ^_^

...well, I spend AT LEAST an hour or two here everyday, so I think she might have a point. >_>

I love this board! I admint to being the worst poster ever. LOL (not to mention I don't understand half of what y'all talk about.) I'll try to post more.

Pft. NiH hasn't eaten anyone's life. We can quit anytime. We just don't want to. I mean, we have nothing to prove. *nodnod*

*bows* Of course!

That's OK, we're can be a very confusing bunch.

...in fact, come to think of it, I spend a lot of time here, and I sometimes still have no clue what's going on. @_@

If everyone simultanously pretends to understand what's happening, it creates a nice illusions of competency.

*eyes WW suspiciously* Are you sure you relinquished your (remaining) sanity to Vindiemort and her minions when you arrived (it should have been done within your intro thread)? If not, then that is your problem... In order to understand something/someone insane, you must possess a certain level of insanity yourself. As for NiH, insanity is not only recommended here, it's a requirement.

ETA: The caterpillar thread I posted in the Drawingroom was prompted by this thread.... and it's surprisingly popular... 8)

Heh. Not to worry. I'm in one of the top ten in terms of post count, and I may have started a total of, I dunno, three threads duiring my entire time on NiH? I have no idea why.....

LadyAbby

wow! I think I handed out like TEN business cards today. It was fun. Everyone was like "ooh, cool! yeah I'll check it out!" in an honestly excited way. I enjoyed it. And I also had fun during my break making up some more fancy looking cards, drawing stuff on it and the like. Hehe. I could be NiHs PR person. :D

Tundra

except then they'd all be from tennessee...

LadyAbby
August 15th, 2006, 04:13 PM
no! I could organize a PR campaign. put up banners on a few websites, mail out fliers to other NiHers to post around, etc. :) It'd be a world wide campaign.

erm. i thought you said that you didn't want NiH too big? I'm not asking for MASSES of new members... just a few every now and then.

*takes cookie* Yum.... Maybe I'll go try bump this post count up to four hundred now.

I couldn't agree more, Tundra. I like it how the regulars are all pretty close and having millions of members might dampen that yet I always love the occasional new person to join in. And I don't know if that sounds how I meant it, but hey!

I was just looking through the member list for other members with cats in their names, cause I wanna write something in my profile but didn't want to repeat someone else, and I don't think that we need to worry about attracting new members by leaving stuff round websites, etc. NiH has been getting a nice steady influx of members ever since it started.

Tundra
August 24th, 2006, 12:28 AM
^ but that's how they found us. Through things in forums and websites.

cat_lover_4113

Well, then maybe once a month you, Tundra, can select one of us to leave a message in a place that we inhabit often, (beside NiH). Then we get members, but not a overload of them.

Tundra
September 2nd, 2006, 03:22 PM
yeah maybe. I don't want you to spam anywhere though, that's the thing. A signature would be cool... but having one of you do that a month isn't really enough, probably.
I also wouldn't want it to be a competition, like 'oh this is member X's month, look, she got in more people than i did!!!'

Tundra
January 12th, 2007, 05:38 PM
I think this thread is relevant again. I'm not asking for spammage all through the forums, but talking would be good. :) Particularly 'downstairs'. We also need to get out of the upset and happy threads a little more... don't worry, I'm not upset with anyone, it's just a reminder. :) Don't be shy, we don't bite, remember?

We also need to get out of the upset and happy threads a little more... don't worry, I'm not upset with anyone, it's just a reminder. :)

I think that's because not many people have been here, and if you don't have a lot of time to talk, those threads are the most obvious to put what's been going on, cause they're already there.

Tundra
January 16th, 2007, 11:27 AM
Yeah true. But i'm hoping that since people are coming back now, it'll pick up... :) The What's Upsetting You Thread by the way is more supposed to be for ... really upset, rather than 'hmn, I'm reading this thread, now i'm going to say what's mildly annoying me'. At least it was originally. Ah well...

Also... I stopped advertising NiH over November and December, and now I'd like to start up again. Nothing at all drastic, and absolutely nothing 'pushy'.
If you'd like to help me by posting a link to NiH somewhere, that'd be nice. But please put it somewhere where if I ask you to remove it, you can. Because that's what I do when I advertise things, if I'm getting too many people at once, or too many people from one place, I'll remove that link and go elsewhere, to keep a balance. :) We're not after hundreds of new members, just a few quality ones each month.

Bumping this up because of the conversation in the other forum.
