Okay...I am not a New York City person. I've only been there a handful of times and mostly it was to go to the airport to catch a plane. And I am faced with a challange. I am directing a play for school and one of my characters is from New York and she is susposed to "look like she shops on Park Ave." Me being stupid, I have now earthly idea what that means. Can someone help me? I just need to know what types of clothes one would find on Park Ave, how expensive they are, and that sort of thing. (it's not like going to go out and buy Park Ave. clothes, but the money factor is something to tell my actor so she knows and just to keep in the bacl of our minds.) Any input at all would make me so unbelievably grateful.

I've been to NYC a lot but don't really know precise places like that- but I'd assume it has expensive/classy shopping because saying someone looks like they shop at _______ usually means it's either really cheap or super expensive, and I know at least that that part of NYC isn't cheap. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Avenue <-- Don't really know if that will help, but...!
Oh, and also, you may be able to pick up hints from the way the character acts and speaks...how do they behave and interact with other characters, etc?

http://www.park-avenue.org/ might be a better source. It has a list of shops and so forth.

Park Avenue is a very fancy part of the shopping district; the clothes would be very expensive.
For example, in the theme song to "Green Acres," she says, "Darlin' I love you but give me Park Avenue," and the whole point of the song is that she loves her hick husband but longs for a posh life.
Er, hope that helps, anyway.
