Does anyone know how long it takes for a hair dye job to dissappear?

permanant dye?

Depends on the dye permanence, the dye quality, on the colour of the dye, on the colour of the person's hair, on the porousness of the person's hair, on how often they wash their hair and what with...

The red streaks in my blonde hair stared fading a month after I had them done, but they're most certainly still visible four months later. Permanent dye could take years to fade completely and is more likely to grow out, to be honest.

Give us the colour of the dye and the hair and I'll see if I can do any better, but to be honest if it's permanent dye you're better off dying over it or having it stripped, especially if the hair's natural colour is pale and you're dying dark.

My character dyes her hair blonde, but she is a brunette and the job isn't permanent, but is done professionally.

I didn't know that brunettes could 'dye' their hair blonde 'non permanantly'

It might be possible with light shades of brown but its not possible to dye it blonde non-permanently if its dark brown inh my experience. I have to have my hair bleached which is permanent to have any shade which is not dark brown/ black. Even with dying or streaking my hair my hairdresser has to partially bleach it first.
That said it does take a while for it to wear off in my hair. I have to wash my hair quite a lot but you can still see the remanents of my original streaks if you look carefully enough although most were dyed back to be similar to my natural colour. Roots though tend to be more evident when you have dark hair.

Brunette-to-blonde is THE most permanent dye job there is, because it doesn't involve dying one colour over another so there's no dye to fade away. The brown hair has the colour bleached out of it. Once you've done that you're not going to have it fading back to brown again. Even if you're dying it back to the natural colour, it'll most likely take a few attempts to get it right if the blonde's pale enough and the brunette was dark enough.

Also, what Walkercarla said -- roots. The BANE OF MY EXISTENCE, that and crumbs in the margarine. And also: A full-head bleach, if done enough times, will usually CRIPPLE the condition of the hair. It needs a hell of a lot of maintenance to look like anything better than straw.

Any other questions? I like hair questions. *grin*

Nah, that's...wait, what about like a dirty blonde to a platinum shade, would it be the same thing as the brunette to blonde?

Yes. Lightening can only be acheived by dyes containing bleach. Even going from brown to a lighter brown requires bleach. *grin* Hell, even going a few shades lighter requires bleach, even if you're already blonde. I ought to know.

Aww crap. That means I can never be blonde again even if I wanted to, now that I've gone and dyed it brown? Oh well. I guess that's alright anyway!

Sure you can! Just get the brown bleached over, then dye to your usual shade of blonde. Or it'll grow back. or if it's only semi-permanent dye, it'll all wash out eventually. *grin*

Oh, it'll eventually grow out, but depending on how long your hair is, that could take a while!

^ ^ chin length. I have never had very long hair. I just keep cutting it short again.
