Some of you have noticed my progress bar in my signature! You may then have noticed that other people got them too. They were testing it for me. :)
This is our new forum feature, and personally, I'm very excited about it. It's a NiH exclusive, bbcentral (Chris) has been making it for me the past few days, from scratch, and based on my specifications of 'small, discreet' (hence the tiny size of it, and the NiH colours default, which I think's pretty snazzy! You can change the colours too, but do try not to blind me. :P ), and a lot of ideas about how people might like to use it. I wanted one myself, and then we had the idea to make it available to everyone here. :)

Some of the things it features: a 'transparent' background colour as a default. This means that not only can you use it here on NiH, you can use it on other forums too. Just note that if it's a black background other forum, not everything will be visible.

Sections so that you can easily change what you are counting. Just note, it can't be too long, or it cuts it off. Some things you may wish to count are words, pages, chapters, projects, essays, drafts, etc. This means that those who aren't writers can also use it.

Easily changed wordcounts. You can change your count by logging in. You can also easily change your total. It'll be displayed as a percentage.

Instructions:

Only one counter per member.
You click the link above, and log in, using your NiH username and password. You fill in the form, click submit, and it will show you an image. It will also have a code, which is very short (another advantage!), which you can then post into your signature, by clicking on 'profile' at the top of NiH. When you go to change your wordcount, the picture updates automatically, no need to change your profile!
If you want to change the colours of your counter, don't forget to click 'regenerate'!

It's a progress meter, it can be for anything you want.

I changed mine. Its now less random, and makes a bit more sense.... who seriously can only eat 11 M&Ms from 100, and leave the rest?

The counters aren't working for me again. :( This would definately be a good time to have them working....

Well, by the time I came back on MSN and saw Tundra's message about the word counters, she had gone offline (probably to sleep!).

Anyway, the good news is that I've fixed the counters up and confirmed that it works now :D

The bad news is that some of you may have to redo your counter from scratch, unfortunately there's no easy way around it (I don't have the time to manually re-link everyone's user ID's).

As before, go here to add/edit your counter:

Login with your NiH username/password.

Keep in mind there MAY be some caching issues, so don't forget to reload the image to make sure it's updated.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Can I get anyone who is having issues to post here exactly what steps they are doing to update the counter?

This should give me more info so I can trace the problem, and why it's only working for some people.

I'm still getting nothing but an x. I started by logging in. Then I picked the colour scheme I wanted and put in the title and units. Last, I hit submit, and I got an x. I tried refreshing the page, logging out and logging in, and waiting a few days before trying again, but so far nothing is working. Do you think it could be a problem with the server?

I already took the x out of my sig. It looked silly.

Apologies for the delay! I only just had a chance to look at this tonight.

The Progress Meters broke when we switched across to the new server, it's all fixed now (and running a little bit faster!).

I also fixed a couple of annoying little bugs in it, so it should work slightly better than before.
